It’s been so long since I sat down and wrote a fresh new script (not since early 2003) or rewrote a script I was going to shoot (9:04 AM, with Grant A. Balfour), that I’ve really had to go back to school, if you will. I’ve been reading Syd Field‘s updated “Screenplay” and “Screenwriter’s Workbook” to help me out, and it really is paying off in spades.
I first discovered “Screenplay” while reading another, semi-decent scriptwriting book in early 1995, and bought it at my old college, where they had/have screenwriting classes (I attended a year later). I read through the book and it really helped me with my first feature-length screenplay, but “Workbook” guided me every step of the way. And it’s helping me, over 15 years later.
Today, I had a brainstorming session with Jeremiah Hall, who is going to help produce the eventual film, and started revising how I was going to approach the film’s opening. I need to tweak the first act, then structure it on 3 x 5 cards and I’ll start writing on Final Draft! More news soon!
